Ellen Vrijsen invites us beyond the surface, revealing what lies beneath the finished image. Her canvases hum with experiments and variations, with the tension of colour trials and compositional shifts. With striking honesty and openness, she lays bare the moments where things went wrong—and how those missteps evolved into something unexpectedly right.

In Vrijsen’s work, abstraction has space to breathe. Colours pulse with emotion; forms drift gently or collide along their edges. Even the background carries weight. Layers above and below seem to reach for each other, their edges just touching—like fingertips grazing in passing.
